Stories of Hope!
Just a few stories of how the Youth Resource Bank (YRB) has helped local families and youth.
Six chairs for a dining table belonging to a grandmother on Social Security caring for six children due to their parents’ inability to do so. What she wanted more than anything was for them to all be able to sit together to have dinner on Christmas day.
Good winter boots, coats, and warm sleeping gear for two teenage boys that grew up in the foster care system are were living in group homes. The boys were able to comfortably go to an Outward Bound type camp. Each boy considered it a life-changing experience.
A young single mother fleeing domestic violence needed basics and warm clothing for her child. Amongst other difficulties, they struggle with housing instability causing them both to reside outdoors– in a place not meant for human habitation. Demonstrating resilience and the desire to create a supportive and hopeful future for her son, she contacted a community support which referred her to the YRB. For any child, youth, or individual experiencing homelessness, stability is vital. With the support of the YRB, the child was able to continue attending their school with warm clothing and the mother was able to feel some relief from stress. Through community support, the YRB was able to help promote stability in the lives of this family, pushing them one step closer to a prosperous future.
A young teen aspiring to graduate high school needed comfortable clothing for school, as well as, hygiene and self-care items. The teen and her mother are homeless and reached out to the county office for support. Working in collaboration with the county office, the YRB stepped in to help meet the student's needs and empower her to continue striving for educational success!
